The Situation
Noted figurative sculptor, Richard McDonald, created a 26'
monument for the Atlanta Olympics. It depicted a "move"
on the horse initiated by gymnast Kurt Thomas. The monument
was to be permanently displayed in Atlanta, but was produced
in Monterey, CA.
The Challenge
Create value in the cross country journey of the monument.
The Response
Developed a flatbed display of the monument which formed
the backdrop in cities along the route from San Francisco
to Atlanta. There was a daytime gymnastics exhibitions to
raise awareness about gymnastic programs in the community
and raise funds. During the evening, galas were held at galleries
that sold the sculptor's works.
The Result
Mr. McDonald received both great publicity for his support
of gymnasts and sold numerous sculptures.
